Tasmania’s east coast has arguably the best climate in the state. After Cradle Mountain, Freycinet National Park is the most popular tourist attraction. On a typical clear day a breathtaking view of Wineglass Bay is the reward for after the hike to the top of the popular trail. However, the entire coastline offers plenty of scenery that amazes.
Here’s the route we repeated a couple of times.One last look at Hobart.The bandicoot is one of the smaller marsupials that roams the area around our caravan park near Hobart. No worries, there were none in danger when we were around. We’ve heard they are the size of a rat, and then we heard a rabbit. Sure looks like a rat in this pic.Tasman National Park is famed for its soaring cliffs and monumental rock formations.Tasman Arch is pretty solidly a miracle of nature.The Tessalated Pavement at Eaglehawk Nest is considered one of the best examples of two types of this geologic formation, the pan and loaf.Beware the Tasmanian devil…actually rarely seen in the wild.Maria Island is 30 minutes from Triabunna by passenger ferry. The best way to experience this National Park is on foot as there are no cars and only a few bikes for hire. It’s large enough to require a few days to see it all along the many hiking trails, carrying all necessary food and supplies, since there are no stores here. This is not the Vella Way anymore so we contented ourselves with one day (one chilly, rainy day) to see the highlights, the Painted Cliffs and Fossil Cliffs.Maria Island wombats are a common sight.The Painted Cliffs aren’t actually painted but a natural phenomena. People of all shapes, sizes and ages will make the huge effort to make the claim of seeing this Bay. (Disclaimer: this one is not live, sheep do not wear gumboots)Bay of Fires was so named because the red lichen on the rocks looks like fire out at sea.Policemans PointAn army of soldier crabs appear as the tide recedes.Up close and personal with a soldier crab. They are quick to return to their sand burrows if they sense the danger of footsteps.

Mary, the painted cliffs are so so beautiful. I can imagine building a home into the cliffs. My pick though was the sheep aka Joe ,loved the choice of gum boots. You canna fool some of the people some of the time.
